What is server?
Many people believe that there are no difference between server and a typical desktop computer. Almost every computer that meets the minimum hardware requirements can run server operating system, but that does not make it real server. Desktop system is optimized to work with simple operating system, desktop applications, and facilitate other desktop oriented tasks. Even the desktop is similar to processor speed, memory and storage capacity it is still not a substitute for a real server. Technologies behind the real servers are designed for specific purposes. The server is designed to manage, store, send and process data 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 356 days a year. Therefore, the server must be much more reliable than desktop. To achieve this, the server offers a variety of functions:
  • Presence of multiple processors, with the possible addition of further
  • Disk arrays to protect data
  • Redundant power
  • Ability to replace components without stopping the server
  • Ability to upgrade if necessary
  • Runs data faster and more efficiently.
